Procrastination Isn't a Laziness Problem

Putting things off is usually about emotion management, not poor time management.

Procrastination is often less about laziness and more about avoiding an uncomfortable feeling tied to the task — boredom, fear of failure, or feeling overwhelmed by its size.

This is why willpower alone often doesn't fix it. Addressing the underlying feeling — breaking a task down, lowering the stakes you've attached to it, or starting with just two minutes — tends to work better.

If procrastination is chronic and significantly affecting work, relationships, or wellbeing, it's worth exploring with a professional, since it can sometimes tie into anxiety or attention difficulties.
