The Underrated Role of Social Connection

Isolation and low mood often reinforce each other. Here's why staying connected matters more than it seems.

When mood dips, the instinct to withdraw from others is common — but isolation tends to deepen low mood rather than relieve it, creating a cycle that can be hard to break alone.

You don't need large social gatherings for connection to matter. Brief, low-pressure contact — a short call, a text, sitting with someone in silence — can still meaningfully soften isolation.

If reaching out feels genuinely difficult, that's worth noticing rather than pushing through alone. It can be a sign that additional support would help.
