Perfectionism: When High Standards Become a Problem
There's a line between healthy ambition and perfectionism that quietly works against you.
High standards can drive good work, but perfectionism tends to shift the focus from doing something well to fearing what happens if it isn't flawless — which is a very different, and heavier, motivator.
This often shows up as procrastination (avoiding starting for fear of an imperfect result), difficulty finishing tasks, or persistent dissatisfaction even with strong outcomes.
Working on this usually isn't about lowering standards, but about separating your self-worth from the outcome of any one task.
